Reading & Hearing
God’s desire is that every believer would not just attend church, but also hear from God daily through His Word. As you read the Bible, you begin to understand the heart of God. We believe the sacred rhythm of daily devotions re-patterns the way you think, transforms the spirit of your mind, and helps you become more like Jesus. Below we've provided some practical resources to help you as you develop your own rhythms.
S.O.A.P.
The S.O.A.P. method is a practical tool for daily devotions: walking you through how to read scripture, observe what you’ve read, apply God’s Word to your today, and listen to the Holy Spirit in prayer. This is a simple way to read the Bible daily without feeling overwhelmed, distracted, or disconnected. S.O.A.P. journaling is also an excellent way to both record and process what God has spoken to you when you spend time reading the Bible. It’s also a useful tool to use at a later time when you want to reflect on and review some of the revelations’ that you have received.
S – SCRIPTURE
Open your Bible to your reading for the day. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you. When you are done, look for a verse(s) that particularly spoke to you that day, and write it down.
O – OBSERVATION
What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture(s)? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you.
A – APPLICATION
Personalize what you have read by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Jot down how this scripture can apply to you today. The best question to ask after reading is: what am I going to DO about what I just read and learned?
P – PRAYER
This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or even a prayer for a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say!
